I see, that's so called photographic rang, so called 宽容度. Dynamic range is measured from image brightness with optical densiometers, and ranges from 0 to 4.

0 is pure white and 4 is very black. Dmax minus Dmin is dynamic range, we are talking about different things. Here is the link for DR.

    • sharpen your image and make it grainy i guess, say no good, blind say..
      • absolutely right!

//punch
    • adjust Gamma, Hue, Saturation will help a lot.
    • Oh, if the dynamic range of your DC (assume it is CCD) is less than 5 stops, Photoshop can not help to improve
      • Five?? My god, Dynamic Range for magazine image or color print are less than 2.0, about 2.8 for film negatives and about 3.2 for slides. you must are talking about photographic stops instead of DR.
        • 2.8 for film? Bet you were talking about the optical density range of film. The dynamic range I am talking about is...
the amount of difference between the brightest and darkest parts of an image, so called exposure latitude. The latest consumer DC can record about 6 stops. The latest digital cinematograph camera claims 11.3 stops, which is about 68dB dynamic range.

By the way, color negative film can capture 8 or more stops of usable detail if correctly exposed.

            • There are different kinds of measurement for dynamic range. We also measure it in bit depth, such as 12bits, 14bits...etc.. Usually we don't use 'photographic range' in camera industry.
