I'm working for the banks. So this is my answer.

Yes. You can pre-paid your credit card and then your credit limit will automatically increase with your base limit + your prepaid. Then your funds available is equal to base limit + your prepaid. Then your buying power is based on your funds available. Not based on your limit.
eg. Limit 1000, funds available 500 (means you already spent 500 on the card), then buying power is 500.
Limit 1000, prepaid 2000, funds available 3000, buying power 3000.
Limit 1000, prepaid 2000, funds available 2000 (means you spent 1000 already), buying power 2000.

    • No problem.
    • as a matter of fact, YOU CAN! write a cheque payable to your credit card payment cenre, your ACTUAL AVAILABLE credit for that period is MORE THAN 1000$, but usually try to avoid this to occur
    • For alternative, you can call the credit card and transfer the credit to your bank account (usually no fee, takes a week). Then you can pay with your bank card or check.
credit card of TD bank, Credt limit: $1000

Nov 1: buy $300, balance $-300, credit left $700 (you only can buy $700 stuff)

Nov 5: buy $700, balance $-1000, credit left $0 ( you can't buy anything now)

Nov 10: pay $600 to TD, balance $-400, credit left $600. (You can buy $600 stuff now, (you need to wait the money reach your account to use it, usually 2 or 3 days )

Nov 15: pay $1200 to TD, balance $+800, credit left $1000 (you can buy $1800 stuff, buy you need to pay twice)

Nov 20: buy $1200, balance $-400, credit left $600 (you can buy $600 stuff)

      Nov 25: buy $ 200, balance $-600, credit left $400

      Nov 27: buy $200, balance $-800, credit left $200

Nov 30: TD send you balance sheet (record before Nov. 25), ask you to pay $600, due day is Dec. 20

Dec 1: pay $600 to TD, balance $-200, credit left$800
      ....

    • Use Your Credit Card A Lot Doesn't Mean That You Will Have A Good Credit History.
Your credit history is based on your period of owning a credit card. It's not based on how much you spent on the credit card.
      • Smarttiecat, Which bank are you working for? And where are you?
        • I'm working for HEPCOE Credit Union Online Banking division in Toronto.
          • Thanks. I had thought to ask you some questions. But I am in Vancouver.
      • A question to ask you:
When I first got credit card, I wanted to use it to pay my telephone bill. But the employee at bank told me that I would be charged interest as withdrawing money when I did it in that way. I could do that without interest only when I have registered my credit card at Bell. So I paid by my debit card.

My question is that what's the difference between I purchasing or paying such bill by credit card. If I pay my tuition bill by credit card, will I be charged interest? Thanks.
        • The way to get around it if you want to do a cash advance is to over-paid your bill with the amount you are going to advance. Then you will not be charged interest.
