The National Visible Minority Council on Labour Force Development (NVMCLFD) is conducting a research and community development project on essential skills and workplace literacy as it relates to visible minorities.
As part of this project, CCNC is assisting them in holding focus groups across Canada to engage those involved in visible minority issues.
This important focus group will be held on August 26, 2006 (Saturday) from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm at the Centre for Social Innovation at 215 Spadina Avenue, in Toronto.
The purpose of the focus group is to receive input:
On the gaps and opportunities at different stages of visible minorities’ life-cycle as it impacts on their literacy skills and labour force outcomes;
On factors which determine literacy and essential skills development of visible minorities;
CCNC is seeking participants with one or more of the following characteristics:
Participants representing a range of age groups including the span of working age population (15-64)
Participants include both Canadian-born and immigrants
Direct experience with the labour market issues of visible minorities
Direct experience in the delivery of training, counselling, or other labour market related services to visible minorities
Have researched literacy and/or essential skills as they relate to the needs of visible minorities
Be a visible minority person that has been a participant in a literacy and/or essential skill program
