I have just watched the CBC Fifth Estate program “Denial Machine” after someone provided the link. Frankly, I was very upset by the quality of the program as well as the bias in that documentary that has gone below the normal journalism.
Here are the few examples:
1. The whole documentary is trying to tell the viewers that the scientists who speak out against Kyoto Accord are bought out by Energy industries. But it only provided one fact that 10,000 dollars from Exxon to Dr. Singer. It is hard to believe that 10.000 dollars funding is enough to buy Dr. Singer as well as other scientists including more than 19,000 scientists who signed Oregon Petition, 4,000 scientists who signed Heidelberg Appeal.
Apparently, the producer of the “Denial Machine” is simply trying to smear the reputation of those scientists instead of arguing the facts presented by those scientists. The integrity of the journalism was severely compromised.
2. The documentary suggests that the Harper government was influenced by the Republicans in the south on climate change issue. It added “in recent years, Canadian green gas emission has gone up by 50%”. However, it failed to tell the viewers that the most of the increase of emission happened under the Liberal government that the Republicans had little influence on.
In the program, I did not find the evidence linking the Republicans and Harper government. That the memo by Frank Lanse(?) “could be read” by Harper is far less enough to prove that Harper government influenced by Republicans. Trying to fabricate the linkage in this documentary shows low quality.
3. From 17:30 to 18:00, the documentary states that the “weather could be like sea level 24 meters higher”, when in fact, even the IPCC revised its prediction in 2007 that world temperatures will possibly rise 1.8C to 4C (3.25 to 7.2F) from 1990 levels to the year 2100 and that sea levels might rise 28 to 43 cm (11 to 17 inches). The documentary is actually playing the facts trying to draw more dramatic effect.
And there is no consensus that the CO2 from human activities is the major case to weather changes, in order word, the key issue is stopping human CO2 emission may not slow down climate change.
To Canadian general public like myself, the debate on Climate change has just started. I resent the fact that a few scientists and journalists came out telling us do not ask questions ( the debate is over) and just do what they say. So far, where is the evidence of man-made Global Warming? The theory of CO2 causing warming as in Gore’s movie has been destroyed by the facts in “Big Swindle”
I understand that CBC is funded by taxpayers’ money and shall serve public with fair and balanced reporting. However, the “Denial Machine” is simply trying to smear the reputation of dissenting scientists of man made global warming in order to unfairly silence the other side in this debate. The fact that such biased program is allowed to air brings the question whether CBC is serving the public or just one political spectrum.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
