Canada must not commit economic suicide to protect the climate

As a nation with vast territories, cold climate, but small population, Canada by nature will have to use more energy in order to maintain its standard of living.
If the US, China India do not sign on to pollution reduction target but Canada do. Industries will be relocated to US, China to take advantage of the cheap energy resources. And Canada has to buy Electricity from US after we ban 'dirty' sources of energy. Canadian GDP growth is already painfully slow comparing to India and China, if we make climate change commitments but they don't, it will make even less sense for companies to produce anything in Canada which can cause
massive layoffs, and recession. As a leader, Harper must be responsible for the economic health of the nation and the livelihood of all Canadians even it means to take a unpopular stance. And he is doing just that.

    • Harper's governmental policies were ranked 55th, making him the second-weakest in the study.
    • question period today...the minister said if China is not on board, Canada will not do anything. shame on him!!! The west world already ruined the environment, now, they just want to take less responsibility!!!

    • The federal government's own environmental advisory body has lobbed sharp criticism at the Conservatives for their climate-change plan, accusing them of overestimating what the plan will accomplish
    • Harper is climate criminal protesters say. Demonstrators ski, march, eat fire to protest climate change worldwide
    • Still not be able to get over with the win of CPC? So sad. Have to admire your endurance. They said I was paid….
      • Welcome back, baby. How was your vacation on the Hill? Under Harper's "great leadership", Canada accused of undermining climate talks
      • Yep, baby, Canada's per-capita emissions and wealth are about 10 times higher than India's and five times higher than China's. Under Harper, Canada is undermining talks at Bali climate .
      • Yep, BUSH is Harper's best buddy. If BUSH doesn't sign the climate deal, nor does Harper. Instead of working with other countries Harper's best man Baird is putting a gun to their head.
      • Yep, Baby, A nice pic to see,,,
    • the whole west world is always ML together; they will never ever accept China to play major role in the world.

      • Is any other country suffering from that because of they are pro Kyoto? No really. Under Harper's leadership, Canada assailed from all sides for its stance at Bali climate talks
        • Make sure you don't compare orange or apple.
Make sure you don't compare orange or apple. In most European countries, people use far less than cars than North America as they work and live in smaller areas. So it's much easier for them to use motocycles, bicycles and public transit. Canada is a vast country, larger than the entire EU, with small population spread across the continent, so people have to rely on cars and planes. And also use more energy to heat their homes and offices. What can you do about this, tear down the country and rebuild? Implemeting Kyoto without sign-on by US, China and India, will improverish the nation, and cause significant inconvenient in people's lives. It's much easier to shout slogans than thinking about the consequence of the action. Don't think PM is a fool!
          • And see what Harper's best man can come up with - Canada environment minister pressed over probe
          • Yep, Harper is not a fool but "MY or NO WAY" There are many bigger cities in the EU and many good things in Europe that Canada can learn from. Don't only listern to what Harper telling you but what rest of the world believe.
            • Don't have time to argue with you but everyone knows a simple fact that pretty much all our modern day conveniences are powered by energy and lowering energy use will impact our lifestyle and lower the standard of living

We will save a lot of energy by moving to basement apartment, walking 60 mins to work at -10 temperature, beating our clothes to dry instead of using dryers. However, any government who want their citizens to sacrifice their standard of living will
surely be kicked out of office, and Harper knows that. Another interesting phenomenon is that most famous advocates of global warming never practise what they preech. While Al Gore is lecturing us to lower our energy use, he never mention his mansion uses 30 times more energy than average house, and he travels around the world on private jet, huge motorcade. Mao may be a dictator, but at least he voluntarily sacrificed his son for his cause. Nowadays, you can get an Oscar, a Nobel
and making millions by selling 'carbon credits', all you need to do is openning your mouth and talk like a saint. Bushand Harper are at least honest about their belief, not like some leftist politicians and movie stars who spend a lot time lecturing us chicken littles on how we should live our lives, while continue to enjoy a lavish lifestyle themselves.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
