might have to do with their experience or education in China. First, the
idea of republican is that social equality and emphasis on individual right,
whereas the idea of Democrat is that minority should give ways to majority.
Republican believes that government should be as small as possible and
should give people more freedom. As you might remember that we were always
preached by Chinese government that government is the best way for our
society and anyone doesn’t believe in government is dead wrong. But when
government has the power to tell you what to do in every aspect, you lost
your freedom. I don’t want government to tell me that I can only buy a
generic drug from company X with whom government negotiated a lower price—
Although this may lower the cost of health care, it also introduces a
possibility of corruption, eliminates competition and leads to low quality
of products. I want to have choice to pay higher cost to get any brand of
drug. Second, Republican is more conservative and hence more hawkish. China
loved Bill Clinton because he worked hard to work with China, especially in
trade issue. Hence, we always read articles on news leaning towards to
Democrat and criticizing Republican and. For that manner, we have been
influenced by media back in China for a long time. We kept our influenced
belief that Democrat is a better party without really ask “do I really
align with Republican” after we came to the US. We came to the US because
we want a better life including getting richer by working hard, live in
freedom without worrying a fight with government. If you align with Democrat
because you love China and don’t want a hawkish republican, then I think
you are in the right track. Otherwise,
Let us move into the money section we all care about. Obama is going to
raise tax for sure whereas McCain want to set the permanent tax cut. You may
hear that Obama only want to raise tax for those rich people. First of all,
the Bush tax cut will expire soon and we will go back to our high tax,
which is not a tax increase in Obama’s mind. Second, do you think the “
middle class” Obama refers to you? Think again are you those rich guy? Do
you know that top 10% income cut off is in $160,972 and top 20% cut off at $
111,645 (5% at 226,918)? With two incomes from most Chinese families, don’t
you think that it is very easy to reach 10% and even 5%. So you are more
likely to be in the high income group referred by Obama and you will be
squeezed by tax soon. In 2006, top 10% people earn 47.32% of income and paid
70.79% tax. Do you really believe that government can tax more on those
super rich guy (0.1%)? No way. Rich people control registration and have
corporation shield to make their income low with so many ways for deduction.
Read “ Rich dad and poor dad” on this argument. So who will get tax? It
is you, my dear Chinese friends. Who will benefit? Those lazy guys who want
government to pay everything for them. Why on earth would you want to spend
9-15 years on a PhD and postdoc? To help those lazy guys? To promote social
equality in term of wealth? Then why no just stay in China to promote
socialism? If you argue that republican will make the economics worst, then
think twice. In the 8 quarters prior to the tax cuts in 03, GDP grew at an
average rate of 1.6%. In the 8 quarters subsequent to the tax cuts, GDP has
grown at an average rate of 4.4%. Why did tax revenue increase more under
