保守党现在是怎么了?刚因为鸟粪问题道歉,现在又向一位儿子战死在阿富汗的父亲道歉。

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛The suspension of a senior Conservative party official over remarks he made about the father of a fallen Canadian soldier briefly doused the controversy sparked Thursday by Prime Minister Stephen Harper's incendiary remarks about the Liberals' signature Green Shift plan.

Ryan Sparrow, the Conservative party's director of communications, was relieved of his Tory war room duties for saying that Jim Davis, father of a soldier killed in Afghanistan in 2006, was a partisan Liberal supporter. His comments came after Davis, in a TV interview, criticized Mr. Harper's announcement that Canada's war effort in Afghanistan will wrap up in 2011, even though the Taliban insurgency is unlikely to be vanquished.

Davis said his son, Cpl. Paul Davis, will have died in vain if Canada withdraws its troops before the mission is complete. While it would be ideal to have Canadian soldiers home by 2011, setting an arbitrary deadline "undermines the work our soldiers are doing and it undermines the mission," said Davis, who has previously criticized the government for contemplating a ban on media coverage of the return of Canada's war dead.

After the interview, Sparrow e-mailed a reporter to say Davis is a Liberal partisan.

Davis, who has worked for federal Liberal party in Nova Scotia, now volunteers on the campaign of Bill Smith, the Liberal candidate in the Nova Scotia riding of South Shore–St. Margaret's.

Sparrow was promptly dumped by the party and ordered to apologize to Mr. Davis.

In an interview from Bridgewater, N.S., Mr. Davis said Sparrow had called to apologize for the e-mail.

"I told him I understand how, in the heat of an election campaign, we all get overzealous," Mr. Davis said. "And he told me he was going to resign and that upset me so I pleaded with him not to, and (to) sleep on it. The last thing I want is for my son's death to cause hardship for anyone else."更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
