description
Maestro is the most robust network batch job scheduler available for MPE. Maestro features powerful scheduling options, sophisticated job recovery, load predictor reports, and control of user-streamed jobs. Maestro can schedule jobs anywhere on the network according to standard or customized business calendars, availability of files, or availability of hardware resources. Job initiation can be dependent on successful completion of other jobs and schedules, on the existence of needed files on any node in the network, on user response to a Maestro prompt, or on the availability of critical hardware or data resources. Maestro can maintain multiple job queues, each with its own set of constraints and dependencies. When there is a limit as to how many jobs can run simultaneously, due to resource or administrator constraints, Maestro selects which jobs to run based on an extensive priority scheme (effective range of 10,000). From a central system, Maestro monitors job scheduling on MPE systems, and any networked UNIX or Windows NT system. Maestro has a recovery facility which ensures that failed jobs are addressed automatically. After detecting abnormally terminated jobs, Maestro puts dependent jobs on hold while it initiates any combination of the following recovery actions: alert the operator, run a recovery job, stop processing, rerun the original job, or continue with the next job(s) in the queue. Maestro provides fault tolerance: if the central system fails, a second system can take over. In case of a network failure, remote systems can continue launching jobs without instructions from the central system. Maestro can easily control user streamed jobs to prevent overloading and conflicts. Powerful reports include schedule predictor reports, usage reports, histograms, and calendar charts. A single console can administer file and resource dependencies, system and schedule limits, and full inter-system job and schedule dependencies.
features
*Significantly reduce personnel costs and improve job throughput with Maestro's powerful and flexible scheduling features and secure job recovery options. *Control jobs on any node in the network, including networked HP3000's, UNIX or Windows NT systems, through one central console. *Plan for critical resources with Maestro's load predictor reports and usage histograms. *Job statistics are logged to a database providing online access to job history including successful completions or abends; and minimum, maximum and average run times.
advantages over competitors
*Provides robust features for initiating and scheduling jobs. *Automates handling of workload tasks, dramatically decreasing the time and errors associated with manual batch job management. *Ensures immediate and correct handling of failed jobs. *Provides true "lights out" batch job processing. *Saves personnel time, improves job throughput.
