I think you can call Bell, and let them know that you want to pay your bill by pre-authorized payment with your credit card. I never tried, but I believe they will accept it.

Almost all large stores, like Canadian Tire, Future Shop, IKEA, Eaton Center, etc, accept credit card. And almost all service provider, like Rogers, Bell, Look, etc, accept credit card.

It's very important to use your credit card at least once every month to establish your credit history. If you don't use it (that means you don't get loan from bank), how could they know that you will return them in time?

I deposit 1300 to get my TD visa when I just came here 10 months ago. I just called TD bank yesterday to get my deposit out (since I have about 10 months credit history), and increase my credit limit. It's so easy, just a call away. Now, the credit limit is 3000.

As JiaoZi's suggestion, ask for a credit limit re-evaluation every half year.

    • Usally the bank will charge the merchant 1% (or so) of the amount. This is why most of the convenient stores, especially those hosted by Chinese, don't accept credit card.
      • Where I can use Credit Card. I even can't pay Bell bill.

          • I tried it this morning. But bell tell me I can't do it.But I can choose pre-authorized payment with my cheque account.
            • It's so strange.
              • I call bell chinese cunstomer service for taht. maybe it's avalible before.
      • And grocery stores, too. Their low profit rate does not allow them to accept credit cards.
    • 我收到了信用卡但是还没开始用,我应该在什么时候往卡里存钱呢?我能不能先存1000进去以后可以暂时不用存了
      • No, you don't need to deposit before you use. The credit card is for credit! Just go ahead and use it, and at the end of each month, you will receive a statement with the total amout you due, the date you due, and the mininum amount you must pay.
Deposit the TOTAL AMOUNT before the due date. That's it.
      • I think you don't understand what is mean of credit card. search related post.
      • 那么免息期是指从我收到STATEMENT那天开始算还是从我消费的哪天开始
        • before the due date
        • 是不是可以得出结论:只要收到STATEMENT后马上付就没事,因为总会在DUE DATE之前收到STATEMENT的
          • yes
          • pay the total balance 1~ 2 days before due date.
            • It's dangerour to do that. If you forgot, you will pay interests.
              • If you don't have good memory, it's dangerous not only when you pay credit card.
          • I use TD bank's online service to manage my money. Usually, after I receive the statement, I will check each item, the amount and due date, and then login to TD's EasyWeb, and schedule to pay the amount one day before the due date.
            • Why schedule it. Is it some benifits?
              • I just don't want to miss a payment. When I check the statement, I schedule the payment, so I don't need to try to remember to pay it before that date.
                • good idea. I 'll do it.
                • not always true, in fact 'always pay on time' cannot necessarily establish
good credit record, remember, they want to loan you, so occasionally making a partial or late payment within a range you can undertake is a good idea.

when i purchased my car, the finance institutions publicly told me that my records are "too good" such that they do not show i have borrowed
                  • confused.
                    • it is clear, to our chinese guys, even when used credit card, we treat it as chequing card---i mean,
                      the credit company's intention is to loan you money as long as you do not default, the reason they survive and flourish is they charge interest, for our part, we want to minimize the extra charge, so we make payment very 'laolao shishi', unfortunately this is not the most welcome way they want. they want to collect interests from us, yet hope we won't go bancrupcy;
                      • I think you are right. But your theory is very dangerous. Many many people bankrupted by not paying the full amount. If you want me to choose bankruptcy and low credit, I choose the later one
                        • i my 1st post, i have emphasized that OCCASIONALLY MAKING A PARTIAL OR LATE PAYMENT WITHIN A RANGE YOU CAN UNDERTAKE. i see no risk on this
          • thanks all of you
            • you are welcome. Why you don't register?
    • In fact, the credit card company charge 3%
