I am not a java programmer, from my perspective, a j2ee mastere should be able to:handle hundreds of ejb ojbects in an application, access database through ejb efficiently, tune the performance of multi-application server, identify and fix all kinds of exceptions.

depends on specific job responsibilitiesi have a little experience on J2EE, my understanding is:
If you are a programmer, your skill set should be Java programming/J2EE API and some experience such as XML/database etc, your emphasis is implementation based on design.
Architecture or analyst require lot of OO analysis and design skills that are independent of J2EE platform. They need to understand J2EE architecture well.
Regarding those admins, they need to deploy/admin J2EE/DB/OS/network.
