Montessori schools use a speical way to let kids learn.instead of having classes for different age kids, they put all kids together, normally, from 2 to 5/6 years. in that way, young kids can learn from old kids, and old kids learn how to take care of young kids.... with big class size, they have more teachers there. each teacher is in charges with a different "project". it's up to your child to pick up which project he/she wants, not the teacher. during the project, it's ok for kids change their mind about what they want to do...

I am not sure about your case, but my son doesn't have a big clss, 2 teachers wih about 12 kids, and no 5-6 years old kid in the class. But ...I guess you are right, kids have more freedom to choose, and teacher will follow your kid's development needs.

that sounds like a regual day care center, not a Montessori school. mixing kids together is one of Montessori school's special ways. anyway, it's not bad to have 2 teachers with 12 kids (1:6).
