竹杖芒鞋轻胜马,谁怕?
一蓑烟雨任平生。
This poem popped up to my mind while we were tramping the hills and brooklets, even though we had three wonderful days without a trace of rain or thunderstorm. I am so happy that I responded to Dennis’ email and joined in this amazing trip. Actually it is just the kind of thing I have been dreaming for years: get away from the civilized conveniencies for a few days, listen to wings of loons skimming along the lake, watch Milky Way blinking over camp fire, have sapphire dragonflies perching on my shoulder, and troop through woods with the rhythm of woodpeckers knocking into the bark…….
My sister always teases me, “ What is the fun of that?” In order to make her understand, I described this fascinating trip would be full of danger and temptation. Last night just after I arrived home, she called me from Los Angeles,
“ I am surprised you are still alive!”
“ Of course I could survive, I am a strong camper. “
“Have you seen a bear?”
“ No. “ I managed to say.
“Have you seen any wolf?”
“No.”
“ Then, what on earth did you see?”
I could not answer her question. Because I have seen so much, it is really hard to list them all.
I have seen dedication and enthusiasm. It is beyond my imagination that you guys could organize a camping trip so well: the whole ideas and arrangement, traditional and modern communication systems, the most delicious apples in the world, five-star luxurious tent ….
I have seen the magic of Chinese medicines. I am sure I can do some jogging today, even though I was proudly ranked first on Spraining Your Ankle contest.
I have seen silent support from the helping hands with backpacks and the view of precursor’s back on the trail and in the lake. I can’t make it without your guys around me.
I have seen care and friendship. I heard that the other two cars came home safe and sound and I wish Daren's (spelling?) car don’t have anything serious. Thanking for those who companied me back to Toronto earlier. But I really feel sorry for you. Because of me, we didn’t be there for Daren when he needed our support. Especially when I got to know my interview was arranged on Thursday.
………
Right now I still suffer from the horrible mosquito bites. Even a small black dot on the wall or a tiny small inset flying around me can get on my nerve. But I have to say, this trip is the most enjoyable outings I have experienced!
Have a nice day,
