I was just on the phone with a friend of mine a few minutes ago. Her parents were in DuJiangYan (amongst the epicentre where two schools and a hospital were flattened). Her dad was blown out of a bank while he's banking there, injured slightly. The bank collapsed behind him. Her mom also survived 'cause she's in a bungalow and ran out of the house quickly when she realized it's an earthquake. Now her parents were homeless and fled to ChengDu to stay with their relatives there.
My friend told me a few other (out of thousands) sad stories. A neighbour of hers was sick in hospital. May 12th was his birthday, so the whole family of 7 people went there to celebrate his birthday there. Then, the earthquake hit, hospital collapsed, none of the big family survived.

If you are thinking about doing something for those affected by the earthquake, donation will be the best way to help. I myself donated through Hong Kong Red Cross (accepts credit card, more efficient and better reputation than the China Red Cross). Here's the donation link.
(f.y.i. HK$1,000 = CAD$128; HK$500 = CAD$64; HK$100 = CAD$13)

You can also donate through our local Canada Red Cross:

Some other channel for donation to China Earthquake.
