Major Earthquake Rocks China
A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake has shaken China leaving more than 8,500 dead and as many as 10,000 injured. The quake, which struck China’s Sichuan province, hit mid-afternoon when schools were packed with children.
The quake reduced many buildings to rubble. Early reports suggest widespread power and water outages. There also concerns that aftershocks may trigger landslides. The quake was so strong that it was felt as far away as Pakistan.
World Vision is monitoring the situation in China and is working with Sichuan government officials to assess the situation.
