The aid fulfilled an earlier pledge by the government to match private donations from Canadians in response to the two natural disasters which struck in May.
"Thousands of Canadians have donated generously to help relieve the suffering of those affected by the earthquake in Sichuan Province, China, and by the cyclone that devastated Burma," Beverley Oda, minister of international cooperation, said in a statement.
"The government of Canada is proud to match, dollar for dollar, the donations of these Canadians so that the men, women and children affected by these terrible tragedies can receive the life-saving food, water, shelter and medical attention that they need."
The massive 8.0 tremor that hit China's Sichuan province on May 12 left nearly 70,000 dead and 18,000 missing while the Nargis cyclone in Myanmar left 138,000 dead or missing.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
