本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I work as an RPN at YeeHong. I can share some what I know.
Residents: I like working with Chinese elderly because most of them are not as demanding as western elderly. They treat you like their children – they often save their dessert from meals, a piece of cake or fruit, and sneak it into your hands. It’s so sweet and warmhearted. Their health general conditions are better than western elderly. They are on less medication, have less skin problems, have less emergency so your job are earlier than working at the other western nursing home.
Family: There are a few of them drive me crazy. I got verbal warnings, almost was suspended because of very small things which I felt so innocent. Those people don’t appreciate your work, thinking you should spend very second with their parents as if you are their private sitter.
Work load: RPNs only do medication and treatments at YeeHong. We don’t take telephones and doctor’s orders. They have one floor (about 25 resident, ) during dayshift plus treatment for another wing of the floor, and have 2 floors (about 50 residents) for evening, so evening shift is a bit tough. They have to work all shifts on a schedule basis, and float between at least 2 floors.
Co-workers: RNs are in charge of the floor. Many of them have medical background from China, there were doctors and nurses; even a lot of PSWs have medical background, they are really helpful sometimes. I get along with most of RNs, though 1 or 2 of them piss me off; fortunately, I rarely meet them because I work part-time and all of us relocate and float.
Management: They are much Chinese style leaders. They see your room for improvement rather than giving encouragement or praise and the way they talk to you make you uncomfortable. They are afraid of complaints from family and rarely say NO to them so the families are kind of indulged, but are so mean to us.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
