Hours: 37.50 HOURS/WEEK; 12 HOUR DAYS, NIGHTS, AND WEEKENDS
Status: PERMANENT FULL-TIME

The University Health Network (UHN) represents the coming together of shared values and diverse expertise in patient care, research and teaching. Each of our facilities (Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital) makes a unique contribution to the whole. Together, we create something far greater than the sum of our parts.

The 28-bed Otolaryngology/Plastics/Head and Neck Unit is the largest head and neck inpatient unit in Ontario. Our strong multidisciplinary team cares for patients recovering after major and minor head and neck resections. Nurses on this unit have expert skills in airway management, flap monitoring, and leech therapy. The unit has strong linkages with Addiction Services at Toronto Western Hospital.

The majority of patients have diagnoses of:

Oral Cancer
Laryngeal Cancer
Thyroid Cancer
Breast Cancer requiring reconstruction
Skin Cancer (melanoma/basal cell)
Other Head and Neck Malignancies

As a member of the UHN and the Nursing Multi-disciplinary Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. The principal responsibilities include: applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S) certification
Previous experience in E.N.T. and plastic surgery
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Must be flexible, and possess the ability to work effectively and efficiently within a variety of patient care teams
Excellent organizational, time management and decision making skills
Completion of B.Sc.N. preferred
