it is said that he is more interested in the form and structure of music, detest Wagner and any sentimental music. Supposedly he expressed his view fully in his book "Sketch of A New Aesthetic of Music", but I have not read it.

true, he was more concerned with form and contrapuntal structure, mostly german stuff, which is why he transcribed so many works by Bach. this is very unusual among italian composers.
