I hope you would never vote for NDP. I always perfer a smaller government. Let the market (that means you and me) decide what to do. We are mature adult and we know what we want. Why do we need someone in government to made decision for us?

I suggest small government but not no government. And in term of 社会公益, don't underestimate the funding from private sector. But if you look at Toronto City services, why can't we outsourcegarbage collection, library, garden, day care............. and even IT works. Although I still want to apply their programmer job.

Outsources may not always improve the service level. Using library as example, if we can have the same serivce level but only 60% of cost, then we don't we save the money and use it to provide other services that our community needs.

Recent eHealth story may be a good example of "花费巨大成效极少". I do not suggest to outsource everything immediately. We have 40+ ward in Toronot, what I suggest is to use certain wards as proof of concept for a year before we roll out anything.

so when city deicde to outsource their services, they must also implement an open and fair environment for every company to bid for the services. And our councillors (or even the residents) must be able to monitor the whole bidding processes.

BTW, Margaret Thatcher is my hero! Just a very friendly and constructive discussion, what part of privatization that she did you think was not appropriate.

I used to work at financial industry and I quite agree with 鲤鱼's point on 银行高官. I saw how CEO pushed executive who was conservative away from the management team. And when everyone in the management is all aggressive (greedy), then....

anyone (including union worker) can 为享受生活而生! But I as a tax payer who works like a slave for the last 20+ years and never 享受生活而生 are not longer willing to pay my tax to support their lving style.the union workers got their money for me (a slave) to support their 享受生活而生living style.
There are 2 million people who can vote next year; it is up to them to decide if they would like to continue to fund the union workers' living style.

The municipal government of Toronto can outsource any city services anytime it dares to do so under current Ontario Employment Standard Act. During the strike, it can also outsource the clearance works of temp garbage dump site as well. And the union has no right to force us to wait for a few hours to dump our garbage.
But David Miller did NOT do anything to help Toronto residents.

You have a very good point, I just want to add one more reason. Cities around Toronto are typical in development and they have a lot more infrastructure to build.

Another point is the average price in Toronto is higher than 905, therefore the "rate" looks lower. But for the same size house, the tax may be the same.
